Checking in With A Loss

I am happy to report that my 9 day journey with the Ketogenic way of eating has enabled me to lose 14.2 lbs. Diligence and perseverance have allowed me to learn this new way of eating.  My calorie intake has greatly decreased but by adapting the keto way of eating, I have not been hungry. There is still a long way to go in this journey to reduce my weight, but I am still taking it one day at a time.  Each day, I get out and walk at least two miles in the morning. This is more for keeping my knees more flexible, but the cardio is a plus.  If you are on My Fitness Pal, feel free to friend request me.

How is the weekly list going?

1.  Follow through with financial planner investigation. Nothing done yet.
2. Menu for week, keto meals. I still am winging it.  I need to do better.
3. Sign us up at the gym.
4. Dentist on Wednesday.  Get meds from surgeon.
5. Back hedges.  Need a truck bed to stand on.  They are REALLY tall.  Still nothing.
6. Investigate rewards CC's. I need to pay off my other CC first.  But it is fun to look.
7.  Get steps in on a daily basis.
8.  Check out flights for Wisconsin family reunion in August.     Flights are darn expensive!

So, the list is not exactly going as planned.  But, that's okay.  The list keeps me aware of what I need to do.  Of course, there are other things I need to get done that are not on the list, so those things keep me busy too.

The whole financial planner thing is kinda on the back burner.  The gentleman that does our taxes has offered to look at my statements from the inherited account.  My primary reason for possibly changing financial planners is the cost.  The statements are a bit confusing to me, but I see what they are charging the account as fees and it concerns me.  Anyway, after tax season, I will meet with our tax guy and hopefully we can figure things out.

The weekend is going to be a bit busy.  My oldest is graciously volunteering his time and talents at the county animal shelter.  He  and three other guys are going to put up sail shades in the dog play yards.  Summers are freaking hot and these sail shades will give the volunteers and the dogs a break.

The guys will be putting in 6 x 6 posts in three other play yards so the shades can be attached.  The play yards are huge and the sail shades are approximately 16 x 20, that shade will be greatly appreciated when the  temps are in the high 90's!

My grandson  is playing in his final soccer games this season, which is also on Saturday.  I will be at the shelter in the early morning, meeting the guys and getting them started.  My goal, is to make the 11:00 game.  I think it will work.  The shelter is about 45 minutes from our house, so I will spend a good part of the morning on the road.  No biggie, we are so excited to get these sail shades up before the heat!

We are still working on finishing up our kitchen remodel which has included the laundry room and the dining room.  The three areas are connected, and since the kitchen turned out so pretty we had to address the not so nice laundry room and dining room.  It takes time as my husband is a bit of a perfectionist. But it is what makes him happy, so if he is happy doing the remodeling in his own way, I am happy too.

Time to call it a night.  Hope you all have a great day tomorrow.

Pain Management

Post knee replacement

It's odd that my new knees are still somewhat painful, but in a different way than before the surgery.  Sleeping is difficult. For me, when lying in one position for an extended period of time my knee joints start to stiffen up, so any movement is quite painful and will wake me up as I try to get in a more comfortable position.

Pain medication that was prescribed  during and after surgery is not something I really need, until the middle of the night when I am trying to get comfortable.  What was effective in the recent past, was NyQuil.  So, to avoid the unnecessary medications associated with that, I will be trying Zyquil this weekend.

Obesity and arthritis led to the double knee replacement.  My weight is still too much, and of course I need to do something about that.  I hate to set too many long range goals, as they tend to lead to failure.  So for now, I will be happy with a "one day at a time" mindset when it comes to weight loss.  Today, and the last three days, I have been eating Ketogenically.  Wicked Stuff has a definition of eating keto here.  My daily goal is to keep my carbs under 20 grams.   As of today, that has been attainable.  I track my carbs on MyFitnessPal which has been very helpful.

I have used MyFitnessPal in the past. It's funny, looking back to 2009 when I first logged in and thought I was fat, I was 30 pounds lighter THEN.  Well, If I was setting along term goal, that would be one of the first.  To get back to the weight when I FIRST thought I was fat.

Trapped a Few Cats Last Night

This morning, I am transporting 5 feral cats that our organization trapped and am taking them to the low cost spay and neuter clinic.  The colony caregiver set out the traps yesterday and successfully trapped five of her six cats that she feeds. She has one more male that we still have to trap, but 5 out of 6 is pretty good.

The clinic has a package deal with us.  They will sterilize, vaccinate, ear-tip and microchip the cats for $50 each.  Currently, our County Commissioners have funded a rebate account that will allow county residents to receive a $50 refund for each cat.  It's a great deal for the cats and the colony caregivers.

I will continue to actively  help with TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) until I go back to work, or find another job. While I have been home recuperating from the knee surgeries, I have been following up on phone calls asking for TNR help.  There are sooooo many feral cats out there and it is now kitten season.  Seriously, the calls lately have been from individuals that their feral cat just had five kittens....multiply that time about 5 calls a day.  That is a lot of cats.

Still working on my weekly list. Today will be a lot of driving transporting cats to and from the clinic and back to their home.  We are meeting with the PetSmart manager and the new manager of the shelter to talk about the shelter becoming adoption partners with PetSmart.  Currently, we are adoption partners with PetSmart and it has its benefits for our organization.  With those benefits, comes a lot of work and coordinating successful adoption events.

Hoping to get to Aldi's today to pick up a few things.  Tonight, we are having breakfast for dinner.  Eggs, grits and bacon.  One of our favorites.

How is your day looking?  Do you have a list that keeps you organized?

Monday and a Weekly List

My daily list from last Monday, took a whole week to almost complete.

Eight things to get done today:
1.  Drop stuff off at Goodwill
2.  Stop by Aldi's and pick up produce
3.  Take a power nap
4.  Throw mothballs in attic to chase out the squirrels. ( goodness,I need to get this done)
5.  Downloadf and print SS statement for us.
6.  Call for appt to get taxes done.
7.  Plan menu for the week
8.  Call Financial Planner and set up appt.

I still have to set up appt with Financial Planner, but I need to prepare and get my stuff together before I do that.   In fact, we have been thinking about moving our account to where it was previously.  There is still a few phone calls to make and another planner to interview.

The family went to the fair this weekend and I had my first fried Oreo.  It was pretty darn good!  Here is the Instagram of my first bite.

Remarkably, we only ate out one time last week.  (Not counting the food at the fair) Since we have finished the renovations on the kitchen, I am completely happy to stay home and cook.  With that, I am trying to use what I have on hand.  I tend to be a bit of a food collector/hoarder so it was time to use up what I have already in the pantry.

Today was a day of cleaning and organizing the living room.  We moved furniture, vacuumed, washed the tile floor and rearrange the furniture.  One rocker and one floor light was pushed out to the road.  Lets hope that it will be picked up by someone who will use it before morning.

The Ambien is kicking in, so that's it for tonight.   Happy Monday, at least what is left of it!.

Whittling down the List

Lordy, time just flies.  Tuesday is almost over thankfully.  I had last my physical therapy session today, which resulted in a two hour nap afterwards.  The morning was filled with a memorial service for a friend's mom.  The service was wonderful  and it was an honor to be able to go and support my friend.

Monday's List is slowly getting whittled down.

Eight things to get done today:
1.  Drop stuff off at Goodwill
2.  Stop by Aldi's and pick up produce
3.  Take a power nap
4.  Throw mothballs in attic to chase out the squirrels. ( goodness,I need to get this done)
5.  Download and print SS statement for us.
6.  Call for appt to get taxes done.
7.  Plan menu for the week
8.  Call Financial Planner and set up appt.

Appointment tomorrow morning at the accountant.  When I called to set up my appointment for taxes....he just cackled.  Nothing like last minute, Lisa!   I will stop at Donut King and pick up some donuts for him and his mom.

Fitbit.....oh the fitbit.  I took it off Monday evening to give the grand-kids a bath, its not waterproof and I didn't want to screw it up..  And... I did not put it back on.  Back on track with that tomorrow.

Math is not my thing,  I rely on my financial planner to make sure and to explain to me in SIMPLE terms that I can understand and that will reassure me.  And then I wonder, do I really need a financial planner..... IDK.
Of course, they will tell me I do need a financial planner.  We will see where it all ends up.

Happy Tuesday!

Monday Stuff

Yesterday I started wearing my Fit-bit, and it did motivate me to keep moving.  While doing things around the house yesterday, I would purposely walk farther and longer to keep my steps up.  I did not max out at 10,000 steps, but  6,584 is a good start.  Sleeping on the other hand, well, that needs some work.   Since the knee replacement surgeries, good sleep has been but a distant memory.

Instead of trimming the too tall hedges yesterday, I went through my closet and let go of some clothes I will probably never wear again.  There were a lot of shirts/tops, scarves..( which I have had for at least 15 years, saving them like they were trophies or something) and shoes.

My slacks/jeans, most of them I will keep.  They fit, a bit snug, but they fit, and I hate to buy new slacks because its so hard to find ones that fit.  Jean shorts, I did find a couple of pairs that I forgot I had. They were squished in amongst the slacks.  I had a hard time letting them go too.  Two pairs are missing the metal button that sits above the zipper.  Practically new too. They are in my dresser, I jsut have to replace the buttons or something.   I do not sew.... so really, I  don't know what to do.

It may not seem like much from this picture, and there is so much more I can get rid of, It will just take time to go through all our stuff.  Baby steps.

Eight things to get done today:
1.  Drop stuff off at Goodwill
2.  Stop by Aldi's and pick up produce
3.  Take a power nap
4.  Throw mothballs in attic to chase out the squirrels.
5.  Download and print SS statement for us.
6.  Call for appt to get taxes done.
7.  Plan menu for the week
8.  Call Financial Planner and set up appt.

That's it for now.  What is on your agenda for Monday?

Tracking Movements

I have a Fitbit Alta that I won in a raffle last year.  And that is the first and last time I used it was last May, for only about a month.  Fitbit fail.  So, I dug it out, charged it and re-synced it to my phone.  I know I am not moving as much as I should be, accountability will hopefully motivate me to get up and get going.

Research is ongoing for eating the Keto way of life.  I have such a hard time with giving up carbs.  Lets just take this one meal at a time.  Reduce the carbs and learn to replace with healthier carbs. One step at a time.

Today's  list of things to do includes trimming the back hedges.  They are no joke, probably as tall as the house. Throw some mothballs into the attic to chase the squirrels out.  Boil eggs for lunches, bake bacon for sandwiches for lunches. Figure out what is for dinner......

How is your Sunday going? Do you have a list of things to accomplish?
